Following the events of Captain America: Civil War, Peter Parker, with the help of his mentor Tony Stark, tries to balance his life as an ordinary high school student in Queens, New York City, with fighting crime as his superhero alter ego Spider-Man as a new threat, the Vulture, emerges.
I just got back from watching the new Spiderman movie and it was pretty
good. It was a Thursday night screening so there wasn't a whole lot of
people there, but everybody in attendance seemed to be really enjoying
themselves. The movie appears to be the best version of Spiderman made
yet. The kid playing Spiderman, or Spiderboy really, is a very good
actor and did a good job with the role. The real standout of this movie
was Michael Keaton as The Vulture. I forgot what fun Keaton can be in a
fantasy movie. The story moves along all right, a lot of it was full of
high school crushes and proms and homework and bedtimes, but that kind
of goes along with the character. They didn't overdo it, but at times
it did kind of slowdown the movie. I think the idea is they're trying
to set it up to get a new generation of kids into the MCU because all
the other main heroes are adults and maybe not quite as relatable to
them. As good as the movie is, I do realize that Spiderman got a big
boost from the momentum of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the
character seems to be better placed with Marvel than Sony due to the
fact that Marvel better understands the character and how best to
utilize him. Right now Spiderman is on loan from Sony to Marvel, but I
want Marvel to buy Spiderman out right from Sony and tell them to go
away forever. Sony still intends to take him back after the next two
years, and they would just screw it up all over again. Marvel Studios
makes better movies than Sony. I think this movie would best be enjoyed
by kids aged 10 to 17. Adults will enjoy Michael Keaton and what he
brings to the role as the villain. It's a good movie, it's worth the
price of admission, probably little too long for anybody under 10 years
old. Go see it, it's not bad.
